17th edition and Part P
If your engineer was wiring on a ring main (the main wires running through your property that connect each plug socket) or a fuse spur (a socket that just has a switch and a place for replacing the fuse – commonly found in the kitchen or on your immersion heater), it is a legal requirement the engineer is connecting or altering these cables they must have the 17th edition and Part P.
For example, in plumbing this could be necessary if the engineer was wiring up a new electric shower from the fuse board or installing an immersion heater for the first time. (If the engineer was just replacing like for like it would not be necessary.)
In addition if you are getting solar PV it would be a necessary qualification
